Our Curriculum

Curriculum PictureMaster An's curriculum includes the most exciting and beneficial aspects of Martial Arts. These include kicking to improve flexibility, forms for balance and concentration, and partner drills to improve speed and reflexes. No two classes are exactly alike. A variety of drills make training fun and exciting; challenging but not overwhelming. Our training curriculum is incompliance with and exceeds the requirements for the World Taekwondo Federation and is recognized by the International Olympic Committee.

As you prepare to test for your next belt, you are presented with a new set of skills to learn. The process continues, offering a lifetime of learning continuing through the color belts, degrees of Black Belt, Master degrees and beyond. Martial Arts learning is a journey, not a destination.

Our Goal System

At Master An's our different colored stripes and belts mark short and long-term goal setting. The belt system continuously rewards students for their progress and motivates them towards the higher goal of attaining the coveted Black Belt. There are six official belt colors. To continue rewarding our students we, like most martial arts schools, have implemented "in-between" belts for students to earn. This prevents long periods between belt advancement which can discourage some young learners.

Belt Color and Their Meanings:

colored beltsWhite - Innocence, purity and brilliance. When directed through a prism, we can see that is is composed of all the colors of the spectrum. So is the beginner student: when directed through the prism of training, sincerity and effort, his essence is potential. It is the seed hidden beneath the winter's snow.

Yellow - The warmth of the sun that melts the snow and allows teh seed to germinate and sprout. This is the birth of the conscious and purposeful action. Enthusiasm.

Green - Spring, when the new plant and the Martial Arts skills really begin to develop, when growth and activity abound. Maturity.

Blue - The sky toward which the plant matures into a towering tree as training progresses. Ambition.

Red - Danger as you near the sun's heat. Cautions the student to exercise self-control and warns the opponent to stay away. Intensity.

Black - The opposite of white, signifying maturity and proficiency in Martial Arts. It also indicates the wearer's imperviousness to darkness and fear. No color added to black can improve it. Independence.
